An energy audit is an in-depth assessment of a building or business’s energy consumption, as well as its energy sources. It may include an analysis of energy consumption, the costs associated with this consumption, the energy efficiency of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment and systems, as well as the building envelope (wall, roof , windows, etc.). The objective of the energy audit is to determine opportunities for reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency, identifying sources of energy waste and proposing solutions to eliminate them.
The process of an energy audit may include an analysis of past energy consumption, a visual inspection of the building and its equipment, tests and measurements, and interviews with company or building officials. The results of the audit are usually presented in the form of a report, which includes recommendations for the implementation of measures to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency. These measures can include changes in behaviour, technology or energy management, as well as investments in more efficient equipment or alternative energy technologies.
